Foam Tapes
General Information: Can-Do National Tape offers many different foam tapes with adhesive systems on one side or both sides. Also, we offer foam materials with no adhesive at all. It is very important to know the properties of the various foam tapes because specific applications demand specific foam tape products. Different foam tape densities, thicknesses, adhesive systems and cell structure allow for a great variety of products.
Varieties and Applications: Foam tapes are used for sound dampening, insulating, gasketing, cushioning or padding, and sealing. As mentioned above, there are several kinds of foam tape, each with unique features and purposes. Can-Do markets five distinct varieties; each is described below.
• Polyethylene foam tapes are general purpose and are used for general mounting purposes, gasketing and splicing. These foam tapes are white and typically are double coated with a rubber based adhesive system for mounting, but acrylic adhesives are available as well.
• PVC foam tapes are resistant to fluid absorption because they are “closed cell.” These foam tapes are available in low, medium and high densities and typically have an acrylic adhesive system. Applications for PVC foam tapes range from waterproofing seams and openings to gasketing and impact cushioning.
• Polyurethane foam tapes provide good insulation and are available with either a closed cell or open cell structure. The adhesive system generally provides a strong initial tack.
• Neoprene sponge foam tapes are used for shock absorption, insulation and gasket cushioning. These foam tapes generally have a rubber based adhesive on one side. EDPM foam tapes generally have an acrylic based adhesive system, and these foam tapes are closed cell structured and recommended for weather resistant sealing. Both of these foam tapes provide good long term seals.
• Silicone sponge foam tapes are used for thermal insulation and vibration dampening. Vinyl Nitrile foam tapes are closed cell and oil resistant. They are used in caulking, weather proofing, vibration dampening and impact cushioning. Sponge rubber foam tapes are open cell and dense, so they are excellent for shock absorption.
